Career
1976 – Joined Singapore Tourism Board, and spent 36 years with the STB. Key positions held included Vice-President (Eastern Region) in the USA, Director of Exhibitions and Conventions, and Director of Events Marketing.
1979-1988 – Assistant Regional Director, Eastern USA
1989-99 – Director of Exhibitions and Conventions, led the launch of the successful Meet in Singapore 1995 convention campaign
1993-95 – Secretary General of the Asian Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaux, launched Convene in Asia convention campaign
1999-2002 – Director Events, formed the International Events and Festivals Association (IFEA Singapore) for the development of the events industry in Singapore
2002-2008 Regional Director for the Oceania region responsible for marketing Singapore in Australia and New Zealand.
2006 – 2008 Formed and chaired the ASEAN Promotional Chapter for Tourism in Sydney.
2006 – 2008 Senior Director Special Duties to represent Singapore in chairing the ASEAN Cruise Working Group to steer the development of the ASEAN cruise industry.
2006 – As chair of the ASEAN Cruise Working Group (ACWG), worked with cruise lines to initiate the formation of the Asia Cruise Association. Engaged with cruise industry entities, the private sector, and ASEAN Senior Transportation Officials to co-ordinate cruise infrastructure development in SE Asia.
2009 – 2012 Senior Director International, STB
Retired from STB in 2012. Now in their panel of presenters under their Retired Public Servants Programme providing tourism briefings on behalf of the Board.
2012 – Joined Asia Cruise Association as General Manager. Conducted training workshops and seminars in Asia to better equip travel agents to sell cruise packages. Organised joint seminars between cruise lines and regional governments to develop cruise-friendly facilities and support software in ports that want to welcome cruise ships. Worked to affiliate the ACA with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
2014-present – Consultant with MasterConsult and International Business Dynamics providing tourism and cruise consultancy. With International Business Dynamics project team to the Solomon Islands to help them develop a cruise terminal proposal.
2015-present – Working with Globalports Asia, an international developer, management and investment company developing destinations and infrastructures linked with ferry terminal, cruise terminal, marina and airport businesses. Identifying regional opportunities for cruise terminal development and meeting the human resource demands of cruise lines operating in Asian waters.
