FREE webinar: Why Unconditional Support for Israel is Bad for America and Americans

Bangkok — The Donald Trump administration’s growing list of actions disrupting global peace, security and stability are facing increasing resistance and pushback. One of the most controversial ones is the President’s publicly stated goal to “clean out Gaza”, the latest in a long list of political, diplomatic and economic actions taken by multiple U.S. administrations in support of Israel.

On February 7, a new think-tank set up by a former State Department official is to hold its first globally available FREE webinar on the topic: Why Unconditional Support for Israel is Bad for America and Americans. The webinar will be addressed by Josh Paul, co-founder of A New Policy and Yousef Munayyer, Head of Palestine/Israel Program and Senior Fellow, Arab Center Washington DC. It will start at 1 pm US Eastern time.

The webinar will discuss A New Policy’s recently issued policy paper of the same name. The two speakers will explore “the many ways in which the unquestioning support of Washington for the Netanyahu Government has damaged America’s standing around the world, how it has weakened our national security, and how it is doing real and lasting damage to our civil rights at home as well as the basic fabric of our democracy.”

This is the cover of the policy paper and its 13-point list of policy assessments challenging U.S. actions.

The webinar will open the door for a broader discussion on how American corporate and business interests also play an instrumental role in supporting Israel. This is especially true in Travel & Tourism where U.S. corporations dominate OTAs and payment gateways, the two most important channels which influence flow of business and generate a treasure trove of demographic and behavioural data.

In addition, U.S. companies exercise strong influence in the financial, investment and management sectors of Travel & Tourism. U.S. hotel chains dominate the rooms and accommodation supply in most countries. U.S. private equity investors and real estate companies have ownership stakes in multiple companies. U.S. consultants and academics are also active in multiple educational, cultural and civil society institutions.

Many of these companies and individuals have connections which can be traced back to Israeli interests.

According to the webinar’s announcement, “This is the first of what will be a monthly webinar series from A New Policy. Together with experts from across the political spectrum we will be sitting down to discuss topics relating to U.S. policy on Palestine and Israel ranging from civil rights to the environment to defense and diplomacy. We hope that the series not only provides some useful insights and perspectives on the issues, but also helps people think about how to talk about these often-sensitive issues, and expands the space for important conversations.

This is A New Policy’s Mission Statement:

Relying on foundational American values as our guiding principles, A New Policy will promote a hopeful, forward-looking vision that advances liberty, equality and human rights in Israel and Palestine. Hardline lobbies have spent decades setting up political incentives that have skewed American politics, and by extension, American society away from a rational and moral policy in the Middle East. Meanwhile, there is no equivalent set of organizations promoting a fair and just policy centered on human rights and American interests and values. A New Policy will be the voice for that just and balanced approach.

As a nondenominational, nonsectarian, nonpartisan American organization, A New Policy will educate members of Congress on related foreign policy, legislative, and regulatory matters, and will lobby government officials to urgently pursue long-overdue policies that reflect our American values, interests, and voter preferences, as well as comply with U.S. laws. A New Policy works in partnership with organizations across the political spectrum to bring together a large American constituency that strengthens our impact and influence.
