Gross National Happiness Hits the Hotel Industry
IRVINE, Calif.– June 26, 2013–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CareerBliss, the online career community, today released new data identifying the CareerBliss Happiest Hotels to work for 2013.
Leading the way in employee happiness is the hotelier the Crowne Plaza, followed by Marriott and Hyatt North America. CareerBliss determined which key factors helped drive hotel employee happiness such as the hotel’s commitment to employee career advancement, a good working relationship between senior managers and their team, and the hotel’s commitment to providing employees a culture that allows for a sense of work-life balance – information that may help travelers as they book their summer vacation this year.

The CareerBliss data examined key factors that affect employee happiness including: One’s relationship with his/her boss and co-workers; his/her work environment; job resources; compensation; growth opportunities; company culture; company reputation; daily tasks; and, job control over the work performed on a daily basis. The data account for how an employee values each factor as well as how important that factor is to the employee’s overall happiness. Each review is given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five. All assessments are derived from 2011-2013 from independent employee reviews.
“It’s clear that a positive work environment and relationship with coworkers has the greatest impact on overall workplace happiness for people in the travel industry,” says Golledge. “For example, Crowne Plaza (ranked No. 1), received high scores from employees in the area of company reputation, management and their relationship with their peers.”
In addition, hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton also had their highest average score in the area of employee relationships. Across the board, work culture and peer relationships were the largest factors that impact happiness for hoteliers.
