Father’s Day Survey Reveals What U.S. Dads Want Most: A Vacation
SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–American dads have spoken, and what they most want for Father’s Day this year is: a vacation. According to new research from Ebates, the online cash back shopping and subsidiary of the global internet services company Rakuten, loving children and spouses should be browsing for vacations and getaways, because Dad is hoping to get out of town. What else does Dad want for Father’s Day? Try tickets to a sporting event, tools or new gadgets, but don’t get him a gym membership or socks. The survey also revealed that Americans plan to spend less on Father’s Day than they spent on Mother’s Day.
What Dad wants
Thirty-two percent of dads said they’d most like a vacation for Father’s Day this year, and another 31 percent want to see some live sports:

1. A vacation | 32 percent
2. Tickets to a sporting event | 31 percent
3. Power tools | 28 percent
4. New tablet | 28 percent
5. Watch | 26 percent | ||
Another 25 percent of dads said they’d love some beer for Father’s Day, and 21 percent said they could do with some new BBQ gear.
What not to give Dad
As with last year, a gym membership ranks low – 92 percent of dads would rather be gifted anything but a gym membership. Furthermore, 36 percent of dads are most tired of receiving underwear and socks for Father’s Day, and 35 percent are tired of receiving ties.
“Finding the right gift for Dad can be a challenge, since preferences seem to vary widely from year to year,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates. “Last year, clothing topped dads’ wish lists, but this year it seems like most dads would prefer a vacation. Shoppers can count on Ebates to let them know exactly what to buy Dad and where to get the best coupons, discounts and cash back on those gifts.”
Men are from Mars…but Dad isn’t
Moms and dads don’t have such different ideas about how to spend their special day. Moms’ top gift choice for Mother’s Day this year was time with the family. Likewise, a majority of dads (60 percent) said they hope to spend Father’s Day with their family.
What’s more, many moms admitted that they shop for themselves on Mother’s Day – and it turns out that dads do, too. In fact, 56 percent of dads say they pick out their own Father’s Day gift at least some of the time.
Americans spend more on Mom
This year, 30 percent of Americans planned to spend $51-$100 on Mother’s Day, and another 27 percent planned to spend between $100-$250. For Dad? Not so much: 32 percent of Americans will spend between $1-$50 on Father’s Day, and another 29 percent will spend between $51-$100.
Until June 19, Father’s Day shoppers can receive up to double cash back on select retailers via Ebates.com. Shoppers who prefer to shop on the go can download the free Ebates app at Google Play and the App Store.
