Deputy Director General (Promotion), Tourism Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud and Director International Promotion (ASEAN), Mr. Syed Yahya Syed Othman, presided over the sending off participants of “Biker from Phuket” to promote fascinating rides from Hatyai, Thailand to Penang, Malaysia.
Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani expressed his appreciation that the two friendly countries have made great efforts to promote Thailand-Malaysia cooperation in tourism especially this year to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He also thanked travel agents and media for their dedicated efforts and constant support in promoting Malaysia especially in Southern Thailand.
“As Malaysia and Thailand share 8 border land-crossing points, this biker route is hopefully regarded as another good link to further enable tourism between the two countries, ” he said.
“Last month we launched Southern Thai Packages to Malaysia by promoting one of the fascinating transportation platforms through Malaysia Rail Packages. This time we would like to invite all Thai tourists to explore another travel experience through the biker trip to Malaysia. From January to August, Malaysia received about 1,235,706 Thai tourists. We hope that this biker trip will encourage Thai tourists who love adventure to explore the route and experience themselves,” he added.
Besides, Tourism Malaysia continues to use the theme ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ to be promoted along with #ThaiPaiMalaysia (ไทยไปมาเลเซีย) to encourage Thai tourists to mark Malaysia as a preferred holiday destination for family and friends.
Penang is gaining popularity among Thailand tourists. Penang’s tourism industry received a major boost when it was ranked as 2nd top tourist destination among 17 best places to visit in 2017 by CNN. The island state’s cultural diversity, influenced by a blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan and European influences, is among its unique attractions, earning it the recognition as a UNESCO Heritage Site.
