Travel “Around the World in 180 Minutes” with Sala Hospitality Group’s Wine Dinner
Bangkok, Thailand, 10 November 2020 (Source: media release) – SALA Hospitality Group will transport diners on a culinary journey around the world on 3rd December 2020, when it hosts its second wine dinner. Staged at sala rattanakosin Bangkok, this epicurean evening will feature rooftop canapés and a sensational six-course dinner that showcases exceptional cuisine and fine wines from across the globe.
In partnership with Central Wine Cellars, sala boutique’s executive chef, Fernando Roman, has crafted a menu that travels to eight countries on five continents, from Thailand to Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, France, Italy and Spain. At every stop, leading wine expert Rasmus Poll will pair dishes with a premium label.
This gastronomic gathering starts at sala rattanakosin Bangkok’s rooftop bar at 6pm. Guests can gaze out over the historical skyline, including Wat Arun (the “Temple of Dawn”) as the sun sets over the city, making this ancient temple sparkle and shine. Bite-sized Asian and European treats will be served, including tempura oyster with avocado-infused wasabi and pickled ginger from Japan, arancini with truffle paste, smoked Italian cheese and forest mushrooms from Italy, and caviar with mascarpone and glass potato from France, accompanied by a glass of Antech “Elegance”, Blanquette de Limoux NV, a light and vibrant sparkling wine from the south of France.
Dinner is served at 7pm at the hotel’s river-facing restaurant, starting with a Thai-style hors d’oeuvre, “ma hor” with mushroom relish, pineapple gel and coriander. The journey then flies down to South America for an appetizer of Argentinian ceviche with frozen yoghurt, caper berries and chimichurri sauce, paired with Zuccardi Q 2017, a crisp and fruity Chardonnay from the Mendoza region of Argentina. Staying in the Southern Hemisphere, the entrée showcases New Zealand lamb with walnut crumble, spinach purée, pumpkin balls, snow peas and dauphinoise potatoes, served with Astrolabe, Durvillea Pinot Noir 2017 from the famous Marlborough wine region of New Zealand.
For the main course, diners can choose which direction to take. A fragrant and flavourful crustacean curry with poached lobster tail, steamed oyster, mussel gnocchi and organic vegetables will highlight the finest South African seafood, accompanied by a glass of Anura Limited Release Chenin Blanc 2016 from Stellenbosch, South Africa. Alternatively, guests can return to France to enjoy perfectly-prepared beef tenderloin medallions with pommes William, caramelized French onion, seared foie gras and a rich dark chocolate jus. This hearty dish is paired with M. Chapoutier Croze-Hermitage 2018, a full-bodied red from the vineyards of France’s Rhône Valley.
The evening ends with a delectable Spanish dessert: chocolate turron with white chocolate mousse, berry coulis and a coconut tube. This is served with Faustino Semi Seco Cava, a stunning sparkling wine from the renowned Rioja region of Spain. Guests will also be treated to surprise “petit fours”.
